What Stump Removal Is
Stumps are easy to ignore until they become a problem. They get in the way when you mow, they attract pests, they make it hard to plant or build where they sit, and they generally don’t go anywhere on their own. We remove stumps for landowners across South Georgia, whether it’s a single yard stump or a whole tract that’s been cleared and left with stumps standing.
Why Wright Way for Stump Removal
Stump removal is often the last item on a punch list, which is exactly the kind of small job some crews let slip — we treat it with the same scheduling discipline as a full clearing job. When Stan and Dawson Wright started this business, they kept hearing the same complaint from South Georgia landowners: crews that quoted a job, promised a date, and never showed up. Wright Way was built around the opposite — if Dawson schedules your estimate or your start date, he’s there.
Who Calls Us
Stump removal usually comes up for folks who:
- Just had trees removed and don’t want stumps left behind
- Want to mow over an area without dodging stumps
- Need to plant, fence, or build where the stumps are sitting
- Have stumps starting to rot and attract termites or other pests
- Want their yard or property to look cleaner
How We Handle Stumps
Depending on the situation, we either pull stumps out or grind them down. We look at the size of the stump, how deep the roots run, what’s around it (utilities, fences, foundations, other plants), and what you want the area to look like when we’re done. From there, we pick the approach that fits.
We work carefully around structures and landscaping. After the stump is gone, we can fill the hole and level the spot so you can move on with the rest of the project.
Our Stump Removal Process
Step 1 — Free Site Walk. Dawson looks at the stump’s size, root depth, and what’s nearby — fences, foundations, septic lines, utilities — before deciding on an approach.
Step 2 — Method Decision. Depending on what you want the space for, the stump either gets ground down below grade so grass can grow back over it, or pulled out along with the major roots.
Step 3 — Removal. Using a grinder or excavation equipment suited to the stump’s size, Dawson removes the stump and clears the immediate area.
Step 4 — Hole Fill & Level. The hole gets filled — often with the wood chips from grinding — and leveled so the spot is usable again.
Step 5 — Cleanup. Debris is cleared and the area is left ready for mowing, planting, or building, whichever comes next.
What to Expect
- Stumps gone, with the area cleaned up
- A usable space where the stump used to be
- Honest answers about what’s reasonable for your specific yard or land
Serving Meigs and the Surrounding Area for Stump Removal
We remove stumps throughout Meigs, GA and surrounding communities like Camilla, Cairo, Moultrie, and Thomasville. South Georgia trees leave behind a wide range of stump sizes and root systems, and we work with what’s in the ground.
Wright Way Land Management is based in Meigs and handles stump removal across South Georgia, including Camilla, Pelham, and Cairo to the west, Boston and Coolidge to the south, Moultrie and Norman Park to the east, and Thomasville, Doerun, Climax, Ochlocknee, and Barwick throughout the rest of the surrounding area. Pine and hardwood stumps common to this region leave very different root systems behind, and stump size plus root depth both factor into whether grinding or pulling makes more sense. Rotting stumps in this climate also draw termites and carpenter ants faster than in drier regions, which is one more reason not to leave them.

UGA Cooperative Extension’s forestry resources note that decaying stumps can attract wood-boring insects and fungal decay organisms that may spread to nearby healthy trees, which is one practical reason to have a stump removed rather than left to break down on its own UGA Extension — Forestry.
Services That Pair Well With Stump Removal
Stump removal often comes alongside:
- Land Clearing — for properties cleared of trees but still full of stumps.
- Forestry Mulching — for areas where mulching takes care of most of the work and stumps need separate attention.
- Root Raking — to fully clean up the leftover root system.
- Dirt Work — to fill, grade, and finish the area after stumps are gone.
Stump Removal Cost FAQ
How much does stump removal cost?
Stump grinding typically runs $120–$400 for the first stump and $30–$60 for each additional stump, or roughly $2–$5 per diameter inch depending on method. Most professional crews also charge a minimum call-out fee, often $125–$250. These are general market figures, not a Wright Way quote — stump size, root depth, and what’s nearby (fences, septic, utilities) all affect the real number, which is why we give a free estimate after seeing the stump.
